A wheel has cover plate 12, which covers the outboard side of the wheel body 1 and wheel rim 2, and is secured to the wheel by the resilient engagement of retaining means, such as projections 14, provided at the outer periphery of the plate 12, in a radially inwardly facing circumferential groove 13 provided in the radially inner surface of the curved axially extending terminal edge 11 of the tyre bead retaining flange 10 of the rim 2. As shown in Fig. 2, the projections 14 are provided on a retaining ring 15 secured by the bead-rolled edge 16 of the plate 12, the edge 16 extending either alongside, or radially inwardly of, the axially outer edge of the terminal part 11 of the rim. Notches 18 are provided in the rim edge 11 to receive a pry tool engaging behind the peripheral bead 16 of the cover plate. In alternative constructions, the retaining ring and its grooveengaging projections may be formed integrally with the cover plate periphery, Fig. 7, or the beaded periphery of the cover plate may engage directly in the groove 13. In further arrangements, the retaining ring has a radial flange which is gripped by the return bent edge of the cover plate, or, as shown in Fig. 5, the retaining ring 30 is of substantially tubular section to lie within the concave inner surface of the terminal rim edge 32.
