A vehicle wheel cover disc or trim ring 20 is formed with an axial flange 23 for spaced telescopic engagement with the bead seating flange 13 of a wheel rim, the flange 23 being provided with a circumferentially spaced series of indented, embossed or cut out sockets 26 defined on the axially inner side by a cover retaining shoulder 25, which may be a continuous annular rib on the flange or a separate shoulder for each socket, the sockets serving to receive retaining bumps 15 projecting radially inwardly from the rim flange 13 whereby the socket shoulder 25 retains the cover axially on the wheel and the circumferentially facing sides of the socket embrace the bumps 15 to prevent relative rotation of the cover on the wheel, and a radially and axially inwardly sloping portion of the cover axially inwardly of the shoulder 25 serving as a lead-in ramp to facilitate springing of the shoulder 25 behind the bumps 26. The pheripheral edge of the cover may be beadrolled and may extend to abut the lip of the wheel rim to define therewith an annular space for the reception of wheel balancing weights. The cover flange 23 may be axially slit to increase its resiliency and to permit portions between the slits to be pressed radially inwardly to form, or be indented with, the sockets. Alternatively, the sockets may be defined by U- or H-shaped embossings on the flange 23, and the flange 23 may be laminated with a peripheral flange of a separate hub cap or wheel cover portion.
