Abstract
754,725. Vehicle wheels. LEMMERZ, P. Jan. 14, 1954 [Feb. 2, 1953], No. 1137/54. Class 144 (1). In a wheel comprising a dished disc 10 and a rim 11 connected together at circumferentiallyspaced radially inwardly directed impressions 111 of the rim and radially outwardly directed surfaces 101 of the wheel disc, the rim impressions 111 and disc surfaces 101 are profiled in axial section so that when the disc is inserted within the rim and rotated the profiled portions interfit to provide axial location of the rim and disc. As shown, the disc 10 is formed from a square plate the corners of which are bent over to provide the rim supporting surfaces 101 and are each formed with a radially outwardly facing concavity to receive the correspondingly profiled impressions 111 of the rim. Circumferential locking of the rim and disc may be achieved by mating indentations 13 formed in the two parts after assembly or in the rim only to straddle circumferentially the disc surfaces 101. Alternatively the rim and disc may be riveted or welded at their supporting surfaces.
