820,739. Clamps; nuts. SIMMONDS AEROCESSORIES Ltd. Aug. 23, 1957 [June 14, 1956], No 18416/56. Classes 44 and 89(1) A fastening device . A for fastening a tubular part T to a panel or other member P, comprises a single piece of resilient sheet metal bent to provide a centrally - apertured base 22 and a number of limbs 4, 6 extending all in the same general direction, and screw-thread engaging means 36 carried by a portion of at least one limb remote from the base and in alignment with the aperture 10 therein, the limbs being formed whereby, on insertion thereof into the tubular-part with the base adjacent the apertured panel or other member and with a screw S projecting through the apertures in the panel or other member and the base and engaging the screw-thread engaging means, screwing the screw into the latter-means to draw it towards the base causes parts 7, 24 of the limbs to move outwardly until they firmly grip the tubular part T. As shown, the limb 4 is bent towards its end 25 to form the part 24 which, as. the screw. S is tightened, is engaged by a free end 26 of a screw-threaded head 11 of limb 6 to force the part 24 and a neck 7 into engagement with the tube T. Shoulders 23 formed on the limbs 4, 6 maintain the tube in spaced relationship to the panel P. In.modifications, Figs. 4-9 (not shown), the shoulders 23 are dispensed with, or are formed across the width of the limbs 4, 6, the head 11 is provided at opposite sides thereof with upturned-flanges or corrugations, and the screw-thread in the head is provided by a tapped boss or by opposed pressed-up tongues. In the arrangement according to Figs. 1-3 of the Complete Specification (not shown), the limbs 4, 6 are alike and terminate in head portions, each providing an extremity formed on a helix to engage a screw-thread, and a pair of prongs projecting from the head portion and adapted to dig into the wall of the tube as the screw is tightened to draw the head portions towards the base.
