Abstract
819,216. Magnetic separation. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Nov. 27, 1957 [Nov. 29, 1956], No. 36573/56. Class 117 A magnetic separator for treating granular or like comminuted material comprises three stages A, B, C having electromagnets 1, 2 and 3 which produce equal flux densities. Conveyer belts 4, 5, 6 feed one on to another in series and their speeds are independently adjustable. Extracted particles are received by cross belts (not shown) travelling in the directions X, Y, Z, and the remaining non- magnetic material is collected in receiving means, e.g. a hopper, provided after stage C. Nominal speeds of 142 ft./min., 114 ft./min. and 80 ft./min. are specified for the belts 4, 5 and 6 respectively, these speeds being suited to the magnetic susceptibility of the particles to be separated at the respective stages.
