Abstract

818,307. Clips. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. June 19, 1957 [July 6, 1956], No. 21092/56. Class 44 A fastening arrangement for holding together in abutment with each other two members which together form a hollow vessel, includes a bent wire or strip of resilient metal having its bent portion fitted round a projecting part of one member and having two arms which are held together against the spring force at the bend by the engagement of the arms with oppositely-directed surfaces formed one on each member, the surfaces being positioned so that the spring force presses the two members together. As shown, the clip is formed from a single length of resilient wire to provide a loop 1 and two arms 2 and 3 which, if not restrained would include an angle of about 30 degrees. The arm 2 is bent four times at right angles towards its free end to provide a seating 4 and a hook 5 in which the arm 3 rests to constrain the arms in the unstressed condition. The clip is applied to the fastening together of a canopy 8 and trough 9 of a lighting fitting, the former being provided with a shroud 14 having on the inside face thereof, two studs 15, 16. In use, the clip is attached by the loop 1 to the stud 15 and is then rotated about the stud by means of the arm 3 to bring the seating 4 into engagement with a lip 12 of the trough 9. The arm 3 is then raised against the resiliency of the loop from the hook 5 and engaged over the stud 16.
