Abstract

817,733. Elevated railway points. ALLEN, C. J. June 20, 1956 [June 20, 1955], No. 19119/56. Class 104 (2). In a transporter rail system in which goods are suspended from means such as skids carried on the upper surface of elevated transporter rails, a switch rail 6 pivoted to a supply rail 1 is movable into alignment with any one of a number, at least three, of grade rails 2a to 2f by a rod 14 pivoted at one end to a bracket 18 on the switch rail and at the other end to a slide block 20 on a guide bar 19, a screwed plate 13 on the end of the switch rail overlying two or more ledges 11 on the end of the grade rails to support the switch rail during movement, the switch rail and grade rail being locked by a bolt 29 controlled by a handle 36 pivoted to a handle 21 on the slide block and controlling a locking pin which engages in one of a series of notches in the guide bar. The bolt 29 is operated against the action of a spring 31 by a wire 35 connected between the handle 36 and the end of the bolt; the wire passing over pulleys 48 and 55 mounted to one side of the supply rail 1 and switch rail 6 respectively. A wire 58 connected to the wire 35 passes round a pulley 72 secured to the supply rail 1 and connects with a pin projecting from a collar secured to the stop-bar 60 whereby operating the handle 36 moves the stop-bar against the action of a spring 64 to arrest a skid 54b travelling on the supply rail. The stop-bar may be omitted in which case a skid travelling along the supply rail affects alignment of the rails by striking a pin 109 projecting from a bar 93 pivoted to a bracket arm on the switch rail, thus rotating the bar and moving a locking blade 86 connected by a bar 87 to the bar 93 into notches 85, 85a on the supply and grade rails against the action of a spring 105 on a shaft 102 having sliding connection with a parallel pivoted bar 93a. Rotation of the bar 93 pulls on the wire 35 and operates the handle 36 to. cause the locking pin to engage the nearest notch in the bar 19.
