Abstract

691,206. Load handling machines. AITKEN, J., [trading as AITKEN & ALLAN]. Oct. 1, 1951. [Sept. 30, 1950] No. 23982/50. Classes 78 (i), 78 (ii), 78 (iii) and 78 (iv). Turntable apparatus A having side tracks 11 is pivoted at 7 and rotatable about a vertical axis. The piatform has rollers 13 and 14 engaging cam tracks 16 and 17. The platform has a pair of stops 12 with weights 23 mounted on a shaft 22, and held in position by a member 18 pivoted to a bracket 24 on the turntable engaging a cam 25 on the shaft 22. The platform tips under load and rotates until the member 18 contacts a fixed side stop 20 which moves the cam 25 to disengage the stops 12 which move to allow the discharge. The turntable is returned to the horizontal by a counterweight 21 and member 18 re-engages the cam 25. Rotation of the turntable can be prevented by a lever 26 pivoted on shafts 27 and connected to a lever 30. The lever 26 passes between two spaced members 29 which are out of alignment so that when the lever is central the turntable cannot rotate, and to discharge it is necessary to rock the lever by hand. When the lever 26 is moved angularly by the lever 30 the turntable is freed to rotate in one direction only. In a modification for boxes the turntable has rollers, one cam track is horizontal, the other curved. To prevent rotation of the turntable a member on the hollow cylinder 15 locks the roller 14. The turntable can tilt without rotation.
