Abstract

703,061. Railway stops. CLARKE ELLARD ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and CLARKE, A. H. June 30, 1950 [June 30, 1949], No. 17318/49. Class 104 (2) In a safety latch mechanism wherein a carriage I is prevented from running off the end of a runway A or B, except when another runway B or A is in a position to receive it, by a stop 3 controlled by a cam mechanism, a cam follower 9 mounted on one runway and a cam 10 mounted on the other runway are arranged so that as one runway is moved into alignment with the other runway the cam follower 9 moves up the ramp surface 16 of the cam 10 against the action of a spring 15 and enters a shallow recess 17 in the apex of the cam 10 to hold but not to lock the runways A, B in alignment. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 1 and 2 a cam 10 and a follower 9 are arranged one above the other on the end of each runway A, B. The follower 9 operates the stop 3 through a bracket 11 mounted on a rod 7. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 7 the pivotally mounted stops 3 are replaced by bars 18 slidably mounted in brackets 19 and moved vertically by a rack 22 and a pinion 23 driven by a chain 27 and sprockets from a link 26 attached to the end of the rod 7 and a shaft 25.
