655,095. Door operating-appliances. SCHAEFER, H. June 19, 1948, No. 16531. Convention date, July 10, 1947. [Class 65(i)] [Also in Group XII] Initial movement of the driving means for a traversable furnace cover 2 mounted on wheels 3 serves to raise or lower wings 8 adapted to effect the end seals between the cover and the furnace, the side seals being effected by wings fixedly mounted on the cover. The movable wings are suspended from bellcrank levers 9 which are pivoted at 10 at the ends of the cover and are connected by cables 15, 16, 17, 18 to the opposite ends of operating levers 13 pivoted at 14 on the sides of the cover. As shown, the levers 13 are connected to endless driving chains 19 carried by pulleys 20 and 22. Movement of the chains in either direction turns the levers 13 into contact with one or the other of buffers 23, 24 to raise the wings and thereafter to traverse the cover. In a modification the levers 13 are connected through a lost motion device to rack and pinion driving means. Specifications 518,012 and 537,226, [both in Group XII], are referred to.
