Abstract
706,517. Shunting railway wagons. COLLIERY ENGINEERING Ltd. Nov. 12, 1952 [Oct. 24, 1951], No. 24836/51. Class 104 (2) Railway wagons are moved to a loading position by a trolley d running on a track c between the railway rails a amd hauled by a motor driven, cable e which extends between sheaves f, g at the ends of the track and has its two ends connected to a cross-head o mounted with lost motion on the trolley d so that as the cable e moves in the sense to move the wagons forward the initial movement of the cross-head o raises an arm h on the trolley d to engage an axle i of a wagon b which is thereafter moved forward to the loading position; on reversing the drive of the cable the cross-head o first moves in its lost motion, which may be aided by a spring r, to lower the arm h and then drives the trolley in the reverse direction to the starting point whereupon a reversing switch k is actuated to cause the cable to be again driven forward. The forward limit of the trolley travel is determined by a reversing switch actuated by an axle counter pre-selected to place a given wagon in position at the loading site, the counting being effected as each axle passes over a short insulated rail length j to complete an actuating circuit. A safety switch t is provided at the limit of allowable forward movement of the trolley d. The axle-engaging member comprises a pair of rollers s mounted on a head t pivoted on the arm h.
