[Also in Group XVII] A container and applicator for semi-solid substances, e.g. cosmetics (see Group XVII), has a longitudinal seam for part of its length formed by an inwardly-turned hook 14 interengaging with an outwardly turned hook 17 formed with a rebent portion 15 and a flat connecting portion 16. The parts are joined by providing an internal mandrel and striking an external blow along the seam whereby the hooks 14 and 16 are clinched together.
