[Also in Group XVII] A method of mounting on a container a whistle-ear 8 having an outwardly extending peripheral flange 9 comprises locally upsetting, without perforation or depression, the container material when in the form of a blank to form an outwardly projecting ridge 6 around the intended whistle-ear location and within which the whistle-ear fits, locating the whistle-ear in position, and subsequently clinching the upper portion of the ridge over said whistle-ear flange. After initially forming an annular ridge, as shown in Fig. 1, the inner wall of the ridge is rendered vertical as in Fig. 2 to enable the whistle-ear to be more easily located. The ends of a wire handle 10 are inserted in apertures 11 in the whistle-ears.
