694,193. Making hollow-ware; seamed joints. CRAWFORD & SONS, Ltd., W., WIDDOWSON, A. V., READS, Ltd., and BROWN, H. Oct. 18, 1951 [Oct. 31, 1950], No. 26480/50. Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv). In a process of hermetically sealing a container by means of a tagger machine-soldered thereto, the container is formed with an inwardly-turned heading or flange round its rim, the tagger having an upstanding wall with an outwardly turned beading or flange fitted thereto so that its beading or flange rests on that of the container, the wall of the tagger is then expanded to bear on the underside of the container beading or flange to fix the tagger in position before soldering the tagger rim by a machine. In one embodiment, a bead 6 is formed on a container 5 and a dished tagger 7 is fitted in the container 5 so that a bead 10 thereon rests on the bead 6. The annular wall 9 of the tagger 7 is then expanded at 11, Fig. 2, to fit below the bead 6. The tagger rim is soldered in a machine. Circular, oval, rectangular, &c. containers may be so fitted with taggers. In a modification the bead 5 is replaced by a flat flange with doubled edge upon which rests a flat flange of a tagger.
