A servo-operated pressure-relief valve for back-pressure and extraction-type steam turbines comprises a valve body having a steam inlet chamber 1 formed with a cylinder 5 slidably mounting a valve piston 6 urged towards a seat 4 by a spring 7 to close a relief passage 3 connected to atmosphere and a servomotor piston 13 under the control of a spring-loaded auxiliary valve 19 subjected to inlet pressure. On inlet pressure rising above a value determined by the auxiliary valve spring the piston 13 rises to first unseat a pilot valve 10 to relieve pressure within the cylinder 5 and then with lost motion unseat the valve piston 6.
