Nov. 14, 1957 [March 26, 1957], No. 35482/57 Classes 7(2) and 7(3) To prevent carburetter freezing, a charge air silencer and cleaner of a motor vehicle I.C. engine has, besides a cold air intake pipe 11 pointing in the direction of travel, a warm air intake pipe 12 with an entry deflector 13 and leading from near the engine exhaust connection, the pipes 11, 12 discharging to chambers 9, 14 delimited by a casing false bottom 6 having a wholly or partially closable opening 16. As shown, a flap valve 7 spring-loaded to close over a round-ended slot 16 has an arm 17 controllable by Bowden wire from the driver's seat or by a thermostat in the chamber 14. There is an annular filter insert 19 of folded material and a rubber sleeve junction 27 to the carburetter and connector 28.
