Abstract

815,970. Selecting record cards. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. March 21, 1958 [March 21, 1957], No. 9115/58. Addition to 802,140. Class 106(1). A card index as claimed in Claim 1 of the parent Specification, modified by the provision of further ferromagnetic inserts E3 and E4 on the top edge of the cards, the inserts being acted upon by electromagnets to help the selected cards to fall out of the pack. The inserts may be permanently magnetized and so polarised that when electromagnets M9 and M10 are energized with direct current the inserts are repelled and tend to force the selected cards out of the pack. The electromagnets may alternatively be excited with alternating current, the vibration induced in the inserts serving to overcome friction between adjacent cards. The side positioned inserts E1, E2 may be permanent magnets serving to loosen the cards by mutual repulsion.
