Apparatus for playing a game comprises a board adapted to be supported in an upright position and having magnetic areas, together with playing pieces incorporating magnets and positionable on both faces of the board. Those ends of the magnets which in use lie adjacent the playing board, are all of the same polarity, whereby a playing piece positioned on one face of the board opposite a second playing piece on the other face of the board will serve to dislodge the latter. The board may comprise a central layer 13 of magnetic material bounded on each face by a sheet 15 of non-magnetic material such as cardboard or plastics, the sheets 15 being provided with registering apertures 18 for the reception of playing pieces 21. Alternatively the board may comprise non-magnetic material provided on each side with registering discs of magnetic material, or having rivets of magnetic material passing therethrough.
