Abstract
815,499. Respiratory appliances. TAYLOR, E. H., and BAXTER WOODHOUSE & TAYLOR Ltd. June 8, 1955 [March 12, 1954], No. 7281/54. Class 81 (2). In a pressure helmet 1 having a movable vizor 2 of the type described in Specification 815,498, a catch 17 in the crown of 1, holds the vizor in the open position against the action of springs in the hinges 3. The catch is mounted on a pressure sensitive support in order to automatically release the vizor if the aircraft cabin pressure falls below a predetermined level. The catch and plate 25, Fig. 4, are hinged inside the housing 28, beneath the shell 1, and are biased upwards by the spring 30. The flat inflatable bladder, 31, interposed between 25 and 1 is either connected to the oxygen supply of the wearer or filled with a suitable gas. Upon a fall in ambient pressure, 31 expands, depresses plate 25 and releases 17 from the co-operating member on 2 which is then moved downwards by the springs at 3.
