Abstract

886,975. Respiratory appliances. M.L. AVIATION CO. Ltd. July 26, 1960 [Aug. 5, 1959], No. 26769/59. Class 81 (2). A pressurized flying helmet having a rigid shell includes an oxygen mask which is flexibly fixed to the inside of the front part of the shell in such a way as to permit the wearer to move his head within the helmet without the mask slipping off and has adjustable straps arranged to pass around the wearer's head within the helmet. As shown, an oxygen mask 6 is secured to the inside of a pressurized helmet by means of a flexible rubber neck 7 fixed to a member 8 on the inside of an outer rigid shell 2. Secured at 3 to the shell 2 is the outer wall 31 of a double-walled rubber bag, the inner and outer walls 30 and 31 respectively overlapping at 4, 5. A flexible rubber disc 9 attached to the neck 7 carries straps 10, 11 which are secured to the shell 2 and adjustable straps 12, 13 which are supported on ear buns 15 on the inner skin 30. An adjustable strap 18 secured to the inside of the skin 30 is detachably connected to a strap 17 which is secured to an extension 22 of a quick-release cord operating a row of fasteners on the fabric back of the helmet. A sun visor (not shown) is housed when not in use in a double-walled portion of the shell. The rubber bag carries pads of sponge rubber (not shown) for sealing the hollows of the wearer's temples.
