Abstract

1496448 Headsets GENTEX CORP 8 April 1975 [26 Sept 1974] 14417/75 Heading H4J An earcup and helmet assembly 10 (Fig. 1) includes an inner flexible helmet 16 having an ear opening 36, a frame 56 mounted in the ear opening 36, an earcup assembly 40, and manually operable release means 78 for holding the earcup assembly 40 in assembled relationship with the frame 56. An outer rigid shell 12 and visor 14 are provided. The inner helmet 16 includes fabric webbing 18 pocketed to receive impact resilient material 20. The helmet 16 and shell 12 are connected by fabric 24 and snap fasteners. Leather strips 22 are secured to the fabric 24 and to a chin strap 26. A nape strap 28 permits the helmet 16 to be drawn closely around the back of the neck. Webbing 30 permits a fastener 32 to be engaged with a complementary element 34. The earcup assembly 40 includes a relatively rigid earcup 41 for an earphone (not shown). A seal (49) Fig. 2 (not shown) fits around the user's ear for sound proofing. A valve 42 may, however, be actuated to uncover an opening to permit hearing of ambient sound. The earcup assembly 40 is held to the frame 56 using a receptacle 44, 46 on the earcup assembly 40 and a lockable pair of fasteners each including a threaded bolt 78 (Fig. 3) mounted on the frame 56 for movement into and out of operative relationship with the receptacles 44, 46. The receptacles 44, 46 are each formed with a recess 54 receiving a pin 82. The pin 82 is integral with a plate lockable by a bolt 78. An earcup 41 of non-circular configuration is housed in a complementary opening in the frame 56. The periphery of the frame 56 has a channel (58) Fig. 2 (not shown) which receives a beaded portion 38 of the helmet 16.
