Abstract

1426432 Respirators NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 8 May 1973 [9 May 1972] 21584/72 Heading A5T A respirator comprises a hood 10 to fit the head of the wearer and having an inner skin 12 and an outer skin 11 with a space between, a filter 16 arranged in said space, and an air-displacing device 14 to propel air 22 through the filter to the wearer's face. The filter comprises a bag 16 of large surface area, of conventional material such as resinbonded wool felt, occupying the major portion of the space between the inner and outer skins. The air-displacing device may be an electrically-driven fan 14, powered by a cap lamp battery and placed at the rear of the hood. The hood may have a visor 18 which is openable and is attached to a flexible skirt 19 which rests on the shoulders 20 of the wearer. The outer skin 11 may be a helmet to protect the wearer, and the inner skin 12 may be flexible to conform to the wearer's head 21. The hood 10 may be supported by a conventional harness 25. The filter 16 may be made sound absorptive to reduce the fannoise, and extra sound-absorptive material may be incorporated in a lining.
