Abstract

918,178. Helmets. OWEN & CO (BOW) Ltd., CHARLES. Oct. 20, 1961 [Oct. 6, 1960], No. 34292/60. Class 63. Safety helmet comprises a peak 12, preferably of resilient material, an outer shell 10 of hard glass fibre and an inner resilient layer 11 of cork. Below the layer 11 is a corrugated strip 21 of sponge rubber. The layers of the helmet are stitched together adjacent its lower edge, the stitching being concealed by a headband 20 on the inside and a strip 22 stitched to a flexible layer 13, of, e.g., leather or synthetic plastics material, covering the shell 10 and peak 12. A strip 14 of similar material depending from the lower edge of the helmet at the back and sides carries chin straps 15.
