Abstract

815,453. Windscreen cleaners. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Nov. 1, 1957 [Nov. 23, 1956], No. 34140/57. Class 138(1). A windscreen wiper blade 18 has a tapered flexible backing strip 25 which allows the blade to flex in a plane normal to the windscreen but makes it inflexible in a plane at right angles thereto. A support consisting of a primary yoke 13 and a spring-biased cantilever arm 15 are attached to the backing strip 25 by means of spring clips with hooked ends 29 which pass through slots 26 into cavities 23 within the rubber blade. One such slot 26a is made smaller than the others as that relative movement between the support and the backing strip is prevented. Tilting of the blade during operation is avoided by providing the spring clips with surfaces 31 which engage the backing strip. In a modification, the cavities are formed by a longitudinal opening which is closed by a backing strip with spaced slots to receive the spring clips.
