Abstract

815,255. Driving dynamos. SELF-CHANGING GEARS Ltd. Sept. 2, 1957 [Sept. 10, 1956], No. 27653/56. Class 35. [Also in Group XXIV] In a change-speed gear where the ratio changes are determined by a variable voltage generator driven by the gearing, the generator is mounted directly over a shaft of the gearing, preferably the output shaft and the stator is mounted on the frame or casing of the gearing as shown, alternate salient pole-pieces of the stator 7 carry D.C. exciting coils and the remainder output coils which can be connected to the control gear through rectifiers and smoothing condensers. The stator is mounted on an extension 4 of the gear case 1 and surrounds a rotor on half coupling 5 on the output shaft 2. The rotor comprises a brass or aluminium ring 14 slotted to accommodate inductor pole-pieces 15, each spanning a pair of stator pole-pieces. In another form the rotor is an annular permanent magnet with a large number of poles in its periphery co-operating with an imbricated pole stator.
