Abstract
814,644. Glass-metal seals. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO. Ltd. Nov. 8,1955 [Dec. 21, 1954], No. 36937/54. Drawings to Specification. Class 36. In a glass-metal seal the surface of the metal' part is protected against corrosion with a layer of rhodium which will not corrode under the operating conditions and which has a coefficient of expansion such as, when combined with the metal part, will match that of the glass. The metal member may be an iron-nickel-cobalt alloy and the glass a boro-silicate glass. A coating of silver may be applied under the rhodium and a further plating of tin or gold may be added after making the seal.
