Abstract

A valve assembly comprises a pair of valves 11, 12 each adapted to be actuated by plungers 14, 16 respectively, through a common operating lever 18 by means of an operating member 24 resiliently mounted on the lever 18 and having limited floating action relative to the lever, such that movement of the lever towards the valves causes the arm 25 of the operating member 24 to depress the plunger 14 to actuate the valve 11, while continued movement of the lever 18 causes the operating member 24 to float relative to the lever about the top of the plunger 14 so that the arm 26 of the operating member depresses the plunger 16 to actuate the valve 12. The operating member 24 is clamped to the lever 18 by a split collar 21 and torsional movement is provided by a sleeve 23 of rubber or like material. Alternatively, the sleeve may be replaced by a suitable spring. The lever 18 may be formed to support an oxyfuel gas blowpipe, such that the weight of the blowpipe will depress the lever to close the valves in sequence, the valve which is closed first being the fuel gas supply control valve while the other valve is the oxygen supply control valve.
