Abstract

736,444. Thermally-actuated valves. PARKINSON & COWAN, Ltd. April 6, 1954 [April 9, 1953], No. 9632/53. Class 135. A thermostatically-operated gas &c. valve of the kind including a differentially expanding rod 15 and tube 14 has an amplifying lever 17 interposed between a plunger 16 abutting the rod 15 and the valve stem 21. The lever is a rectangular plate bearing at its upper end in two recesses in a sleeve 19 and at its lower end against a head 20 on the valve stem 21. The bases of the two recesses are inclined so as to permit the required deflection of the lever. The valve closure member 23 coacts with a seat 22 and is held by a light spring 29 against a spider 25 so as to be self-aligning with its seat. The spider, which is engaged by a valveclosing spring 28, is threaded on the valve stem and prevented from rotating by a screw 26 so that adjustment is effected by rotation of the valve stem by a stem 31. The bore of the sleeve 19 may be broached so that the head 20 makes only a number of angularly spaced line contacts therewith to minimize impedance to movement due to dirt.
