Abstract
715,328. Valves. BRITISH THERMOSTAT CO., Ltd. June 25, 1952 [July 12, 1951], No. 16576/51. Class 135. [Also in Group XIII] A refrigerant expansion valve has a needle valve 4 normally operated by a thermal element, e.g. through the capillary tube 6 and diaphragm 7, and pressure responsive means, e.g. the capsule 27, which closes the valve when evaporator back pressure exceeds a predetermined limit, independently of movements of the thermal element. The diaphragm actuates push rods 8 bearing on a flange 9 sliding against a spring 17 in a sleeve 18. The spring is adjusted by the screw 19 acting on the sleeve. The base of the needle valve is pressed by a spring 10 on to the end of a sleeve 11 carried by the flange. When the back pressure reaches a given value, it acts via sleeve opening 45, slots 37 and passage 44 to move the base of the capsule against a spring 29 so that an adjustable rod 39 closes the valve. The spring 29 is adjustable by turning the capsule.
