813,697. Vehicle lamp glasses. LUND LAMPS Ltd. Feb. 28, 1957 [Feb. 29, 1956], No. 6295/56. Drawings to Specification. Class 75(2) The front glass of a vehicle lamp having a light source disposed in the transverse vertical plane containing the focus of a parabolic reflector, consists of two prisms one above the other to produce a downward deflection of the light beam, the dividing line between the prisms being on the horizontal diameter of the lamp and each prism having a series of spaced vertical flutes increasing in depth and width from top to bottom. The prisms may have an angle of 2 to 5 degrees. The dividing line may be masked by a transverse bar supporting an opaque shield covering the upper front half of the lamp bulb. Plane areas are provided between the flutes in the upper half to produce a long range beam. For use as a fog lamp, the spacing between the flutes may be reduced so that adjacent flutes touch the bottom. Additional tapered flutes may be provided between the main flutes in the upper half of the glass. The light source may be a lamp having two transverse filaments, that of lower wattage being disposed slightly above the axis of the reflector. Either or both filaments can be used at one time.
