Abstract
813,681. Stop mechanism for yarn winding machines. HOLT Ltd., T., and BRIERLEY, E. Sept. 30, 1955 [June 30, 1954], No. 19121/54. Class 120(2) Stop motion means for high-speed yarn winding machines of the type for winding yarns &c. from hanks carried on swifts on to packages which are surface driven or driven direct and operating on entanglement of the yarn includes means to stop the package during roller simultantously with means to positively arrestthe turning movement of the swift and also to simultaneously adjust the tension in the yarn between the swift and the package to prevent undue tension being applied to the yarn and is such that when the entanglement has been removed and the winding restarted, the tension adjusting means returns to its inital position and the package and the swift are free to turn simultaneously. In the arrangement shown, when an entanglement of the yarn on the swift 10 occurs there is a sudden drag which causes the pulley 35 to be tilted about its pivot, so compressing spring loaded plunger 36 and causing cam 39 to push against the compensator lever 40. This action causes a brake to be applied to driving roller 41 and a freeing of block 42 from its abutment with the bearing 15a. The lever 40 moves forwards and upwards such that trigger 43 presses against the extension 20a of a brake rod 20 to free it from its keeper groove 27 whereupon brake rod 20 is forced outward by spring pressure and it outer end 20b is projected into an adjacent hole 30 in the periphery of brake pulley 29 to stop rotation of swift 10. At the same time, tension pulley 32 is swung outwards, under the influence of weight 33, to take up the slack in the yarn Y. In the event of breakage of the yarn or when it becomes exhausted the resistance of the yarn on the pulley 35 is removed and the spring-loaded plunger 36 presses against the bracket 34 and causes it to swing about its pivot in a clockwise direction, accelerated by the weight of the pulley, such that the heel of the cam 39 strikes the lever 40 causing the stopping of the package and the swift as before.
