Abstract
Fibre-forming compositions comprise polyacrylonitrile or a copolymer of acrylonitrile and a cyanoethyl starch ether which is soluble in organic solvents but insoluble in water. The weight ratio of the acrylonitrile polymer to the starch ether is preferably about 90:10. The compositions may be made by dissolving the acrylonitrile polymer and the starch ether in a mutual solvent, e.g. dimethyl formamide, to form a spinning solution which is spun into fibres which are dyeable by the cuprous ion method. The spinning solution may contain titanium dioxide as an opacifying agent.
