Abstract

1,198,081. Polyamide filaments. E.I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 13 June, 1967 [13 June, 1966], No. 27250/67. Heading B5B. [Also in Divisions B2 and C3] Substantially homopolymeric poly(p-benzamides) are characterized in that they have an inherent viscosity in H 2 SO 4 at 30‹ C. of at least 0À7 and a peak height ratio (as defined in the Specification) of up to 0À86 and in that they leave no sediment when 0À1 g. is combined with 10 ml. of a 6À9 wt. per cent solution of LiCI in tetramethyurea, agitated for 24 hours and allowed to stand for 24 hours at room temperature. Polymers with such properties may be prepared by the process of Specification 1,198,082 and are stated to be advantageous for film and fibre formation, it being possible to obtain fibres with an orientation angle up to 35 degrees and initial modulus above 200 g.p.d. The Specification also describes spinning dopes of the polymers and the wet or dry spinning and after-treatment of fibres therefrom. The disclosure of Specification 1,008,854 is acknowledged.
