Abstract

Polymers or copolymers of acrylonitrile are dried to reduce their water content to not more than 1.0 per cent., preferably 0.2 per cent., before being dissolved in dry solvents, as described in the parent Specification. Drying may be accomplished by heating in vacuo at 80 to 100 DEG C. or by washing with a dry solvent which is miscible with water, e.g., dry acetone, any residual solvent being removed by evaporation. The dried polymers may be dissolved in dry dimethyl formamide to yield solutions suitable for spinning.
