Abstract

1465775 Polyvinylidene fluoride filaments RHONE POULENC TEXTILE 4 June 1974 [6 June 1973] 24701/74 Heading B5B Filaments of polyvinylidene fluoride are made by spinning a solution of the polymer in an aprotic polar organic solvent into an aqueous coagulating bath containing 45-60% by wt. of the same or a different aprotic polar organic solvent at a temperature of 15‹ to 40‹ C., drawing the resulting filaments at a ratio of 1À5-5 Î in air at a temperature of 15-40‹ C. and then in boiling water at a ratio of 1À5-4 Î , such that the overall stretch ratio is 3-6À5 x followed by washing the filaments. The filaments may be given a subsequent stretching of 1À15-1À4Î at 140‹ to 160‹ C. and also heat setting step at the same temperature. Preferred solvents are dimethylformamide and dimethyl acetamide.
