812,590. Sheet delivery apparatus. WINKLER, R., and DUNNEBIER, K. Jan. 1, 1957 [May 11, 1956], No. 18/57. Class 100(1) [Also in Group XVII] A machine for wrapping envelopes in paper bands comprises means for feeding envelopes singly on edge to a position where separating devices rise on either side of a given number of envelopes to form a batch and transport the batch to means for wrapping the band about it. Envelopes are fed by a pair of rotating spirals 2 along guides 3 to a position above the separators 4, 12 which are arranged for vertical and horizontal reciprocation by crank means 7, 8, 15, 16 and cam means 4", 9, 9<1>, 12", 17, 17<1> respectively. After advancing of a batch P' by separators 4, the separators 12. rise behind a number of envelopes corresponding to the next batch P and push it horizontally for wrapping. Each separator carries a blade 4<1>, 12<1> which remains closed against it as it rises between the envelopes and then opens out to ensure adequate space for a following batch to accumulate. A wrapping strip is disposed in the path of an advancing batch and is wrapped round it to form a packet (see Group XVII). A photo-electric or other device may be arranged to stop the envelope batch feed in the event of a batch containing less: than the required number of envelopes.
