Abstract
896,220. Feeding and delivering sheets. WINKLER, R., and DUNNEBIER, K. March 30, 1960 [April 23, 1959], No. 11150/60. Class 100(1) [Also in Group XVII] In a modification of the wrapping apparatus described in Specification 812,590, the envelopes accumulate to form a batch against a pair of stops immovable in the direction of envelope travel while further stops transport a formed batch to the wrapping position. The apparatus is fully adjustable for various envelope and batch sizes. Envelopes, fed forward by a suction wheel 1 and rotating spirals 5, accumulate against stops 8, 9 while a previously formed batch P<SP>1</SP> is carried to the wrapping position by stops 28, 29 on a longitudinally reciprocating carriage 24. The stops 28, 29 and further stops 30 on the carriage, which latter advance the line of packages, are arranged either by rack and pinion means or by being pivoted on shafts 32, to be withdrawn clear of the envelope path transversely. At the wrapping station, a band 36 earlier advanced from a magazine 37 is secured round the batch by means 60, 64 as described in the above Specification but with the addition of a removable plate 78 which permits pressure to be applied more effectively to the band overlap (Figs. 1, 4, 4b). Adhesive is applied by a member 70. As banding is completed, the stops 8, 9 and 28-30 withdraw laterally and pivoted latches 10, 12, 14, 16, 34 and further vertically movable stops 17, 18 take over the location of the new batch P<SP>11</SP>, the almost completed package P<SP>1</SP> and the column of completed packages (Fig. 5). The carriage 24 advances and stops 38-30 enter the envelope path while members 10, 12, 14, 17, 18 withdraw (Fig. 6). The carriage 24 moves to carry the batch p<SP>11</SP> to the wrapping station, stops 8, 9 return to their initial position to support envelopes advanced by the spirals 5, and latches 16, 34 withdraw to allow the package P<SP>1</SP> to join the column. A feeler of photo-electric device may scan the envelope infeed and operate a batch ejector if an envelope is missing. The wrapping may be initiated by electronic counting means responding to a given number of envelopes per batch. These devices are not detailed or shown. Band feed. The bands 36 are each initially drawn into contact with a drive roller 41 by a suction arm 40, a rod 43 then being moved by cam means (not shown) to rotate a lever 44 causing a roller 47 to press the band on the roller 41 and advance it to further rollers 48, 51. The rollers 51 may be raised from contact with the roller 48 by a wedge 54 operated by a cam 57 and rod 55. The leading end of the band is held by a gripper 62 on the member 60 which descends to draw the band across the envelope path. The trailing end of the band is located by suction on the member 64.
