Abstract

955,622. Feeding sheets. CONTINENTAL CAN CO. Inc. July 28, 1961 [Aug. 3, 1960], No. 27522/61. Heading B6B. [Also in Division B8] Articles, such as bottles, are continuously fed through a wrapping-machine which supplies carton-forming blanks from a hopper 135, the blanks being partially folded before being dropped on to a predetermined number of articles, the group of articles and associated wrapper then being separated from the incoming articles before completion of the wrapping takes place. The blanks 119, when loaded into the hopper 135 are fanned at their upper edges by a wedge 83 to prevent sticking of the blanks during the feeding operation. After fanning the first blank to be fed is supported at its sides by adjustable discs 138, at its top by rollers 153 and at its bottom by a wedge-shaped guide 80. Each blank is pulled downwardly in succession from the hopper by vacuum cups 155 each attached to an arm 157 mounted on a shaft 159. The shaft is intermittently rotated to position the blanks on conveyer chains 168, pushers 169 attached to these chains carrying the blanks through the partial-folding mechanism.
