[Also in Division B8] In a machine for counting and banding flat articles into batches, the articles e.g. envelopes, are fed to a rotary conveyor 203 which deposits them in a collecting channel 63, 79 along which counted batches are pushed into a vertical stack by a set of conveying fingers 34 which are connected to a linkage mechanism, the fingers engaging below the batch in the collecting channel and after they have swept the batch into a banding device, return outside the next batch which is forming in the initial position in channel 63, 79. The envelopes are held on the rotary conveyer 203 by air suction, are counted by photoelectric devices 54, 56 and deposited in the collecting channel 63, 79. Control discs (220, 232, 228, 227, 226, Fig. 2) are fixed on the driving shaft 46 of the feeding device and control the feed rollers 128, 129 of the banding device, control an air suction for holding the band B, control the operation of a cutter 131, 132, control an adhesive applying nozzle 223 and control the operation of upper and lower band folding over elements 83, 84. The banding mechanism itself is similar to that of the Specification 953,964.
