811,680. Coating surfaces with preformed sheets. NEUCHATEL ASPHALTE CO. Ltd. Sept. 24, 1956 [Nov. 7, 1955], No. 31752/55. Class 93 [Also in Group X] A method of waterproofing buildings comprises applying (1) a layer of bitumen to the surface to be waterproofed, (2) a layer or layers of glass fibre tissue over the bitumen, and (3) a further layer of bitumen, with or without further alternating layers of bitumen and glass fibre tissue. A layer 5 of hot molten bitumen is spread over the surface and a sheet 6 of glass fibre tissue is immediately applied over the hot bitumen so that it becomes embedded in the bitumen, and a second layer of hot bitumen is spread over the glass fibre sheet, followed if desired by further alternating layers of glass fibre sheet and hot bitumen. The bitumen may contain an inert filler such as powdered limestone. The final layer of bitumen may be given a coating 7 of sand, grit, chipping or other material. The invention is applicable to roofs, basements foundations and horizontal, inclined and vertical surfaces. The bitumen can be applied by spray gun using heated lines.
