[Also in Division E1] In a method of covering a surface, e.g. a roof, with a covering material comprising a layer of bituminous felt, such as underfelt, glass felt, hessian fabric, or glass fabric bonded to a layer of aluminium foil, the covering material is placed on the surface to be covered with the layer of aluminium foil towards the surface, so that it is between the surface and the layer of bituminous felt. The application of the aluminium foil between the surface to be covered and the bituminous material prevents wrinkling of the covering. Further layers of bituminous felt, with or without aluminium foil, may be applied over the first applied bituminous layer. The final layer may be sprinkled with fine gravel, slate or stone chippings. The covering may be nailed or glued to the surface which may also be provided with a paper underlay.
