Abstract

863,772. Ornamenting. POLLONI, G., and PAPUCCI, S. May 21, 1959 [Nov. 22, 1958], No. 17266/59. Drawings to Specification. Class 93. Substantially transparent, window panes or panels are produced by coating a working surface with a parting material, distributing thereon a first layer of substantially fluid transparent binding material capable of solidifying and remaining transparent, -distributing pieces of decorative transparent material thereon, distributing a second layer of binding material sufficiently fluid to penetrate into the interstices, and flattening the surface of the. second layer before the binding material sets. The transparent resin composition may be of a polyester and pieces of coloured glass may be applied while the resin is still soft either in a single layer, in overlapping fashion, or in several layers. The glass pieces may form a pattern, and a transparent working surface may be used with a guide pattern underneath. Beads and coloured stones may be embedded in addition to the glass. A further layer of diluted binding material is applied and is smoothed before setting of the resin. Some at least of the glass pieces may be painted. The surfaces of the glass' may be ground and polished, and the edges of the panel may be provided with coloured resin and/or metal elements. A protective covering of transparent material such as tempered glass or crystal may be applied to either or both sides of the panel during or after formation. The surface of the binding material may be sandblasted to promote adhesion of the covering. Coloured glass splinters may be mixed and deposited on to the first layer of resin and the upper layer then applied. A coloured glass splinter layer may form a background, and the main pattern may be formed of glass pieces.
