Abstract

182,138. Kolßr, B. June 25, 1921, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Ornamenting. - Transparent, translucent, and like objects are combined with a substance capable of absorbing and reemitting luminous energy whereby the objects are made to sparkle like precious stones. The luminous substance may be combined with the material of the object when this is being melted or crystallized. Or the luminous substance may be applied as a coating or filling and may be combined with substances resisting deteriorating influences or may be covered over with such substances. The covering substances may be melted, or may contain constituents some of which evaporate, or may be of such a nature as to solidify slowly. For example, the luminous substance may be worked into porous unfinished articles before they are glazed, such as porcelain, or into surface cracks produced by rapid cooling. Glass prisms, rings, knobs, pin-heads, studs, and the like may be ornamented by internal or external applications of such luminous substances alone or alternated or backed with other materials, such as metallic reflectors. As shown in Figs. 25 and 26, a stone i is placed over a mirror z, surrounded by a luminous layer s.
