Abstract

811,414. Hydraulic turbines. KARLSTADS MEKANISKA WERKSTAD A.B. June 17, 1957, No. 18962/57. Class 110 (3). A Francis turbine wheel comprises a hub and blades cast in one piece to which is attached by a permanent joint a separately made shroud. A Francis runner comprises a hub 11 and blades 13 cast in one piece and a shroud 15 cast as another piece. The lower edge 23 of the blades is welded to the shroud at the points 29, 33, and at a further point arranged on the opposite side of the blade from the point 29. The shroud 15 and the passages between the blades 13 are finished machined before assembly. The shroud may be formed of pressed steel plate. To ensure that the joint between the shroud 15 and the blades 13 is sealed, a thin wire may be welded along the edge 23.
