Abstract
1380656 Hydraulic turbines LENINGRADSKY DVAZHDY ORDENA LENINA METALLICHESKY ZAVOD IMENI XXII SIEZDA KPSS 29 Dec 1972 [12 Jan 1972] 60087/72 Heading F1T The runner of a hydraulic machine, e.g. a turbine of an electrical power generating plant, is designed such that the maximum number of blades 2 corresponds to that required for peak efficiency at the design operating head of the plant, but in the early stages of the plant life when the operating head is less than the design value the runner is operated with at least some of the blades removed, the remaining blades being symmetrically arranged on the hub 1. The unfilled blade root openings in the latter are closed by plugs 3. The maximum number of blades on different runners may be e.g. 8, 9 or 10 and these runners may be operated at lower than design heads with e.g. 4, 6 or 3 blades, as appropriate, removed. The runner may be axial or mixed flow and the blades thereof are angularly adjustable.
