Abstract

810,963. Wrapping-machines. ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH) Ltd. May 24, 1957 [May 30, 1956 ; Jan. 25, 1957], Nos. 16663/56 and 2709/57. Class 94(1). In a machine in which articles are removed in succession from pockets in an intermittentlymovable feed member, e.g. a wheel, by a reciprocating pusher which operates in timed relationship with a wrapper-nipping member to move each article and associated wrapper into a wrapping-member, e.g. a pocket of a rotatable mould wheel, the pockets of the feed member are each formed with a slot giving access to the pocket from the exterior of the member, the pusher is formed with an operative tip arranged to pass through the pocket and a connecting portion arranged to pass through the slot, and means are provided for moving the tip in a lateral direction after completion of its operative stroke to cause the pusher to move clear of the feed member during its return stroke. Sweets 11, contained in pockets 12 of an intermittentlyrotatable wheel 13, are transferred in succession to pocket 16 of an intermittently-rotatable mould wheel 17 by a reciprocating pusher 19 having a tip portion 18 which passes through each pocket in turn and is connected to the body of the pusher by a portion 29 which passes through a radial slot 14 associated with each pocket. The pusher operates in synchronism with a wrapper-nipping member 36 of known type. The stem 23 of the pusher is pivoted to parallel arms 21, 22 coupled at their other ends by a link 24 having an extension 31 carrying a roller 32 engaging a rotary cam 34. Upward and downward movement of the pusher is effected by an eccentric sheeve 27 having an arm 28 pivoted to the arm 21 and operating to swing the latter about a fixed pivot 26, the cam 34 operating at the end of the upward stroke of the pusher to swing the linkage as a whole about the pivot 26 so that the pusher moves clear of the wheel 13 on its return stroke. In a modification (not illustrated) the pusher is disposed clear of the feed wheel and mounted for rotation about its longitudinal axis so that the tip and connecting portion pass through the pocket and slot on the upward stroke of the pusher but are swung clear of the wheel on its downward stroke.
