Abstract

656,557. Packing. SKODA WORKS, NATIONAL CORPORATION. Dec. 30, 1947, No. 34650. Convention date, Sept. 17, 1942. [Class 94(i)] A packing machine wherein successive packing operations are carried out in working stations arranged in a circle, comprises a rotary disc 4 which is rotated continuously at a constant rate, several article carriers 12 supported by arms 11 pivotally mounted on the disc 4, and means for imparting an additional swinging movement to the arms 11 so that the carriers 12 are accelerated and decelerated with respect to the rotary disc 4 in order to obtain dwell periods for the article carriers wherein the required operations can be performed. Each arm 11 is fastened to a shaft 10 pivotally mounted on the disc 4, and the swing- ing movement is imparted to each shaft 10 by lever mechanism actuated by a roller 18 which engages a cam-groove in a stationary disc 3. The roller 18 is carried by an arm 17 rigidly connected with another arm 15 by a pin 16 extending through the disc 4, the arm 15 being connected by a link 14 to a lever 13 secured to the rod 10. In positions I, II and III, the carriers are at rest and various operations may be performed on the container or wrapper or its contents. The cam groove may be so shaped that a greater lead is imparted to the carriers than would be necessary for the desired dwell period so that the movement is gradually retarded before the carrier reaches the working station. In a modified construction the carriers are arranged to move in a vertical plane.
