[Class 73] A machine for labelling bottles &c. in an upright position comprises. a conveyer 2 which presents the bottles to pairs of pincers, as described in Specification 649,205, which move the bottles round a circular stationary portion of the work-table 1 and back to the conveyer 2. At the centre of the path on the work-table is a slot through which label carriers 31, 31<SP>1</SP> are reciprocated' to present a label to a bottle as it reaches that point. The label carriers 31, 311 are mounted in a holder 30 on a vertical column 29 and are rotated through 180 degrees in time with the operation of the machine by a cam which also turns the star-wheel to admit bottles to the work-table. As the carrier 31 falls from the position shown under the action of spring 391, a pasting roller 521 moves forward and pastes the. label supporting members of the carrier. The holder 30 then rotates and presents the carrier into the path of a reciprocating label container 42 to pick up a label 1 during which time the carrier 31<SP>1</SP> has presented its label to the bottle. The carriers 31, 31<SP>1</SP> are reciprocated by means of a rod 36 which engages a nose at the bottom of each carrier, which rod is reciprocated by means of a segment 37 and bell-crank 39 rocked by links on the main shaft 5. The reciprocations of the label container and pasting roller are effected from the main shaft and the holder 30 and its controlling cam and the supporting pincers are also driven from the main shaft 51.
