684,272. Closuring containers. LITCHFIELD, A. F. June 18, 1951 [June 17, 1950], No. 15193/50. Class 125(ii) In a closuring machine for applying lids, caps or corks to containers in which containers are fed by a conveyer h to a rotating jig e made of two spaced plates provided with container sockets f and in which the lids are applied by holders k<SP>2</SP> on a rotating spider k and reciprocated vertically by a stationary cam n on a top plate c, the lids are fed by a shoot o the terminal part of which is upwardly inclined, the lids being drawn therefrom by a finger k<SP>6</SP>, on the holder k<SP>2</SP> which includes suction means or a magnet k<SP>5</SP> for retaining the lid. The descent of the holders forces the lids into the containers and the friction of the lid in the container severs the former from the holder when it ascends. The containers are held in the sockets by a continuously moving belt i passing between the jig plates and being spring-urged towards the jig. The containers approach on the conveyer h in timed relation and a discharge conveyer is provided. The containers and holders k<SP>2</SP> may, in a modification, move in a straight path. According to the Provisional Specification, the guide belt i may be replaced by a stationary rail and the holders are pivoted to the arms of the spider which arms are pivoted to the top of the main shaft.
