Abstract
809,951. Backward-wave tubes. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. March 20, 1957, No. 9093/57. Class 39(1). A hairpin interdigital line for a backward wave oscillator tube has the sets of U-shaped metal ribbon conductors, or hairpins 14, 14<SP>1</SP> held between the middle members 12, 12<SP>1</SP> and pairs of outer members 9, 10 and 91, 101 respectively of the bounding walls. The outer members have slots to receive the limbs of the conductors. The wall members and the conductors are gold plated and bonded together by a gold diffusion process, or brazed with suitable solder. At one end the conductors are of resistive material, or coated with such material, to provide a wave absorbing termination. The conductors may be curved instead of, flattened at the base of the U. The complete structure includes side plates 16, 17.
